Calvin graduate with philosophy major, 1933; and professor of philosophy at University of Kentucky, Lexington, Kentucky. The collection includes lecture notes taken in the classes of W. H. Jellema and R. B. Kuiper; correspondence between J. De Boer and Provost Peter A. De Vos; letters from Jesse de Boer to Ken Konyndyk; and publications.
Biographical Information:

Jesse De Boer was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan on August 28, 1912. De Boer attended Calvin with as a philosophy major and graduated in 1933. Then went to the University of Illinois to receive his Masters. De Boer pursued a career as a college instructor. From 1935-1939, De Boer was an instructor at Calvin College. In 1938, he married Catherine P. Rooze and together they had two children. In 1942, De Boer received his Ph.D. from Harvard University.  De Boer then taught at Harvard and Radcliffe. Then De Boer went to teach philosophy at the University of Kentucky until his retirement in 1977. De Boer passed away on May 25, 1990.
