Extent: 43.0 Boxes

Abstract

Reformed Ecumenical Council (REC), formerly Reformed Ecumenical Synod (RES), was a world-wide organization in confessional ecumenism (united testimony to the Reformed faith). REC and World Alliance of Reformed Churches (WARC) disbanded in 2006 and together created a new organization named World Reformed Communion, later modified into World Communion of Reformed Churches (WCRC), 2010. The collection includes articles of association, reports, letters, conference materials, directories, committee materials, correspondence, resolutions, surveys, clippings, handbooks, papers, acts and agendas. RES and REC periodicals are in the main library.

Collection Historical Note

The Reformed Ecumenical Council (REC), initially the Reformed Ecumenical Synod (RES), was formed on August 14, 1946 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The Reformed Ecumenical Council was an international organization of Calvinist churches. About two-thirds of the members of REC were also members of World Alliance of Reformed Churches (WARC). In 2006 President of REC, Douwe Visser, and president of WARC, Clifton Kirkpatrick, announced the formation of the new organization. The new consolidated organization was called World Communion of Reformed Churches.
