Abstract

Minister of the Christian Reformed Church. The collection includes sermons, addresses, correspondence, lectures, notes, and call letters.

Biographical Note

Titus Heyboer was born, September 2, 1912, in Zutphen, Michigan. He attended schools in that area. In his teens, he felt called to the ministry and graduated from the Calvin Theological Seminary in 1938.

Ordination took place in Alto, Wisconsin, on October 21, 1938. He celebrated the Alto congregation's sixtieth anniversary on September 24, 1941. In subsequent years, Titus served in Goshen, New York; South Olive, Michigan; Abbottsford, British Columbia; and Chandler, Minnesota. He retired in 1977.

A year before Heyboer graduated from the seminary, he married Alice Peuler who was also a member of the Zutphen Christian Reformed Church. They had one son who also entered the ministry. This collection came to the Archives through the son, Gerry.

Rev. T. Heyboer's ministry was characterized by his faithful exposition of the Word; his sympathetic and loving concern for the children and youth of the congregations he served; his support of the cause of Christian education in day schools, a cause which prompted him to assist in the establishment of Christian schools in Goshen and in South Olive; and his emphasis on the work of evangelism in the places he served.

Titus served the denomination on the Calvin College board, as synodical delegate, stated clerk of two classes, and on classical Home Missions committees.

His death occurred June 3, 1978, after a period of illness due to cancer of the liver. The burial took place in the family plot in Zutphen, Michigan.
