Historical Note:

Dale Van Kley was born on July 31, 1941. He received his Ph.D. from Yale University in 1970. For 28 years, Van Kley Calvin College's history department. In 1998 Van Kley accepted a faculty position at Ohio State University. Van Kley sparked controversy when he wrote a letter to the Board of Trustees critiquing the former Calvin President, Gaylen Byker.

Van Kley's area of expertise is in early modern European history and religion. He has written a number of books and articles on the subjects. He even wrote a prize-winning book entitled, The Religious Origins of the French Revolution: From Calvin to the Civil Constitution, 1560-1791, 1996. Today Dale Van Kley is emeritus professor of history at Ohio State University.
