Biographical Note
In 1920, Marie Vander Weide moved from Chicago, Illinois to Rehoboth, New Mexico to become the new housemother for the boys at Rehoboth Mission School. She intended to stay only a few years, however she ended up staying for 33 years. During her time at the mission school, Vander Weide found herself being the dorm matron for as many as 60 boys at a time. She affectionately referred to them as "her boys," and in turn they lovingly called her Miss "Van". From 1960 to 1974 Vander Weide remained on the campus as a Rehoboth volunteer. In 1974 she moved to California to be with her sisters. In 1982 she passed away at Artesia Christian Home for the Aged.
