John E. Meeter (1901-1993) | Heritage Hall, Hekman Library
Educator and Minister, John E. Meeter, was born in Hammond, IN on October 8, 1901. After Meeter graduated from Calvin College and Seminary, he went off to Harvard Divinity School and Princeton Seminary earning his Master of Theology. Meeter then studied aboard at Free University in Amsterdam to earn his Doctorate of Theology.
Meeter first started his teaching career at Princeton Seminary. He then went off to teach at Wilson College in Chambersburg, PA for ten years. In 1945, he began serving the congregation of Westside CRC in Cleveland, OH as their pastor. In 1951, he moved to New Jersey to serve the congregation of Englewood CRC. In 1966, Meeter retired.
During his career and into retirement, Meeter focused on editing and publishing the works of Dr. Benjamin Warfield, a notable Princeton scholar. Meeter had opportunity to publish his own poetry and sermons as well. His works made their way to the journals of the Christian Reformed Church and Princeton Seminary.
