Name: Kuipers, William (1884-1933)


Historical Note: William Kuipers was born in Leeuwarden, Friesland, Netherlands on December 2, 1884. After Kuipers' father died, his mother brought their family to the United States and settled in Rochester, New York in 1892. Kuiper attended the Preparatory School of Calvin College and then in 1914 graduated from the Calvin Theological Seminary. His first call came from Second CRC in Fremont, Michigan. He served the church from 1914 to 1919. The other churches he served were Oakland, MI (1919-23); Dennis Av., Grand Rapids, MI (1923-27), and Summer St. Passaic, NJ (1927-1933).  At the age of 50, Rev. Kuipers passed away due to heart disease. He was survived by his wife, Emma (Batts), and their five children. Rev. Kuiper was known for his loyalty to the Reformed faith and his poetry.
