Collection Overview
Abstract
The collection provides insight into the church polity of a group of believers that left the Christian Reformed Church in North America over the issues of synodical rule versus congregational control brought to the fore over the question of ordaining women into church offices.
Biographical Note
The congregation (1992-2001) began meeting during the summer of 1992 with members coming from several Christian Reformed Church in Cutlerville, Michigan, particularly Cutlerville East Christian Reformed Church. The congregation was organized 30 September 1992. In 1994, the congregation called Rev. Ray Lanninga as their pastor. The next year the congregation left its independent status to join what becomes the Lake Michigan Regional Fellowship of the Alliance of Reformed Churches, which had been organized in October 1994. Lanninga left the congregation in 2000 to join the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church and then the congregation ordained Rev. Richard Miller. Apparently, the congregation divided and disbanded in 2001 with some members joining a Presbyterian denomination while others joined the United Reformed Churches in North America.
