During the last years of WW II he worked at the B24 Bomber School in Willow Run, Michigan. In 1945 he joined the faculty of Calvin College, teaching philosophy and freshman English, and added teaching psychology in 1946. He became chair of the psychology department, 1957-1967, and again 1970-1973. He retired from teaching in 1974. He lectured and wrote articles primarily on General and child psychology, particularly in the Banner and the Reformed Journal.
Daling and Effie Bronkema (1907-1953) married in 1937. They had five children: Harm (1939-1996), Krystene K. (Antvelink) (1940- ), Janna M. (Bigelow) (1944- ), Gretjen F. (Wubben) (1945- ), and John T. Jr (1949-2013). In 1957 he married Lucille A. Hoffius (nee Oppenhuizen) (1905- 1968). In 1970 he married Dorothy A. Warners (nee Peterson) (1915-2006).
