Jacob Justin Lamberts (July 3, 1910 - July 6,1992) served Arizona State University as professor of English beginning in 1960. He earned his B.A. at Calvin College in 1931. He went on to University of Michigan where he received both his M.A. and Ph.D. As a professor, Lamberts became a very popular teacher among his students, and well-respected scholar in the academic community. Lamberts was presented with the Distinguished Teacher Award at Arizona State University in 1977.
His 'humanize' method of lecturing captivated his audience as well as sparked curiosity. He had even published a text book, A Short Introduction to English Usage, in 1972. He was also involved in the National Council of Teachers of English, the Modern Language Association, and the Linguistics Society of America. During his retirement, he even held his own "grammar hotline" where companies, teachers, and even government agencies would contact him for grammatical advice.
