Abstract
Bernard John Bennink was a Christian school administrator, teacher, and editor. The collection includes Bennink's biography, zakboekje (military record), correspondence to Mr. and Mrs. T. W. Warner describing conditions in Rock Valley, IA, in comparison with those in Holland, Michigan, and a post retirement letter to Oakdale Christian School regarding candidacy as a 'special teacher.' Articles about, by, and of special interest to Bennink are included; plus family items-a Dutch New Testament with psalms and hymns, photographs of family, teachers, and students, and a translated biography by his father.
Biographical Note
Bernard John Bennink (1864-1947) was born in the Netherlands. He came to the United States in 1886. He and Gertrude Veenstra were married 26 March 1887. Bernard worked as a Christian School administrator, teacher, and editor, and lived in Grand Rapids, Muskegon, and Grand Haven, Michigan. He could speak both Dutch and English. Bennink died on 28 April 1947 and was buried in Muskegon, Michigan. He was survived by his wife, children, and nine nieces and nephews.
