Historical Note: Born November 7, 1955 in Inglewood, California, Bulthuis later attended Calvin College. He began performing in the late 1970s, having his first full concert on Calvin's campus in 1977. In 1986 he married his wife, Jana. In addition to his musical career he leads music at Oakhill Presbyterian Church in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
