Biographical Note

A country school in the community of Fillmore, Michigan, became the first stage in the educational program of Albert B. Voss.  In his youth he attended a Business College in Holland, Michigan.  When the call to the ministry came to him, he enrolled in Calvin College and Seminary, graduating from the seminary in 1919.

Albert was born April 25, 1886 of Mr. and Mrs. Berend Voss.  In 1911 he married Sarah Albers of Overisel, Michigan.  (Christine, the second of five children, presented the collection of the Voss sermons to Heritage Hall in 1986.)

Rev. A. Voss served seventeen years in the Christian ministry.  Four years were spent in Bemis, South Dakota (1919-1923) and another four in Manhattan, Montana (1923-1927).  In 1927 he began his work in Hospers, Iowa.  His installation was on June 5, 1927.  Sunday, February 16, 1936, he became ill and died the following Tuesday.  that Sunday was a day of preaching in the morning of Psalm 100 and in the afternoon on question 127 of the Heidelberg Catechism.

He was characterized as a "faithful and conscientious minister."  The needs of his congregation were of paramount concern.  He served on the Home Mission Committee and was a member of the Classical Committee of Classis Orange City.  As member of the Board of Trustees of the Western Academy he gave generously of his time, talents and finances.
