Abstract

Minister of the Christian Reformed Church. The letters relate information on the years at Calvin Theological Seminary, and subsequent letters are written from various congregations.

Biographical Note

Henry Walkotten was born on November 12, 1864 in Georgsdorf, Betheim, Germany.  Walkotten and his family immigrated to the United States in 1884.  Walkotten entered Calvin College two years later, graduating with a B.A. in 1890. He went on to attend Calvin Theological Seminary, where he earned his diploma in 1893.

Walkotten's first call came from First, Wellsburg Iowa in 1893. He served the First congregation until 1895. Rev. Walkotten's other charges include Third (Allen Avenue), Muskegon, MI (1895-1899); First, Fremont, MI (1899-1907); First Wellsburg, IA (1907-1908); Oakland, MI (1908-1911); Hudsonville, MI (1911-1921); and lastly Second, Pella, Iowa (1921-1925). He even taught the Dutch language and literature at Central College in Pella, Iowa for a few years. Due to a brief illness, Rev. Walkotten passed away on May 17, 1925 in Pella, Iowa. He was survived by his wife, Anna Vos and their children.
