Abstract

Dr. Davis Young is a professor emeritus of Calvin University who taught Geology, Geography, and Environment from 1978-2004. This collection contains correspondence, papers, reviews, lectures, and manuscripts relating to Dr. Young’s career and area of academic expertise.

Scope and Contents of the Materials

This collection contains correspondence, papers, reviews, lectures, and manuscripts relating to Dr. Young’s career and area of academic expertise. It is notable in that it contains a fairly comprehensive view on Young’s thoughts and research on geology and its impact on the Christian faith including his views on evolution versus creation.

Collection Historical Note

Dr. Davis Young is a professor emeritus of Calvin University who taught Geology, Geography, and Environment from 1978-2004. He is the son of Lillian and Dr. Edward J. Young, who was a professor of Old Testament at Westminster Theological Seminary in Philadelphia from 1936 until his death in 1968.

Before teaching at Calvin, Dr. Davis Young earned his B.S.E. at Princeton University (1962), his M.S. at Pennsylvania State University (1965), and Ph.D. at Brown University (1969). He taught at New York University from 1968-1973 and at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington from 1973-1978.

Dr. Young has written and co-authored several books and publications about geology and its relationship to Christian faith.
