Biographical Note

Son of Dutch immigrants, Peter Junior Steen was born on October 4, 1935 in Paterson Pas, New Jersey.  Steen attended Calvin College majoring in Greek and Dutch. He graduated from Calvin College with his B.A. in 1957. Steen went on to earned his B.D. and Th.M. from Westminster in 1960 and 1961. He studied a year at Free University and then a year at Calvin Theological Seminary.  From 1965 to 1968 Steen taught at Trinity Christian College in Palos Heights, IL. He then joined the faculty at Geneva College in Beaver Falls, PA from 1968 to 1972. In the meantime, Steen earned his Th.D. from Westminster in 1970. In 1972 Steen became a staff member of Coalition for Christian Outreach (CCO) in Pittsburgh, PA. He taught and lectured Christian perspectives (worldview) classes for college students. During his time at CCO, Steen travelled within a 200-mile radius of Pittsburgh to serve as a “traveling teacher” for campus ministry. Some considered him a zealous philosopher while many others considered him a loose cannon. He was dismissed from the CCO in 1974, and joined Christian Educational Services (CES) as their field director in Pittsburgh and Grove City. In June 23, 1984 Peter J. Steen passed away at the age of 48 due to cancer. He was survived by his wife, Janice Prins, and their two children.
