Abstract

Minister of the Christian Reformed Church. The collection is a paper entitled "I Will Build My Church, a Statistical Survey of the Christian Reformed Church (1957-1984)." This paper examines various areas of growth in the Christian Reformed Church.

Biographical Note

Wybren Hotze Oord was born in Haskerhorne, Friesland, the Netherlands on August 27, 1953.  Oord immigrated to the United States and attended high school in Franklin, New Jersey. Oord attended Dordt College in Sioux City, Iowa from 1971 to 1972. He then enrolled at Calvin College in 1977, graduating in 1981.  He majored in Speech and English. In 1983 he attended Calvin Theological Seminary, receiving his M.Div. in 1986. During this time he married his wife, Kathy Kok.

Oord was ordained in 1986, and served the congregation of Ireton, Iowa until 1991. Oord went on to serve the church of South Olive, Michigan until 1994. In 1994 the Classis Holland declared Rev. Oord released from the CRCNA. He had accepted the call to serve the Alliance of Reformed Church of Faith Independent Reformed Church in Borculo, Michigan. In 1997 the church voted and decided to join the United Reformed Federation. Oord continued to serve the church until 2002 where he accepted the call of service from Covenant, Kalamzoo, Michigan.  By 2010, Oord decided to move to Lethbridge in Alberta, Canada to serve the Trinity congregation.
