Abstract

Executive Director of the Commission of Legislative Appointment for the State of Michigan; Clerk of the Michigan Constitutional Convention; and Director of Elections for the State of Michigan. The collection includes back-up documents; minutes; and records of the 1961-1962 Michigan Constitutional Convention.

Biographical Note

Bernard J. Apol was a graduate of Calvin College and went on to get his master’s degree in political science. He attended the River Terrace Christian Reformed Church in East Lansing, Michigan, and then later the Second Christian Reformed Church of Grand Haven, Michigan. He served as the director of elections for the State of Michigan from 1966 until 1981.

His parents were Emma and Johannes Apol. He was married twice, first to Crystal Holtrop (who died in 1974), and later to Arlene R. Vander Roest on 29 January 1977. He had two daughters, Ruth Ann Zoodsma (Randy), Jane Okma (Roy), and two sons, Joel and David.
