Abstract

Details (1929-1960) episodes from the ministerial career of De Boer including papers he wrote about biblical studies and Reformed doctrine and the studies of the Belgic Confession.  Notable are the documents, including some court proceedings, of a group (the socalled "De Wolf group") of congregations and ministers who began to differ with the Protestant Reformed Church in 1953 and joined the Christian Reformed Church in North America in 1960.

Biographical Note

Peter De Boer (b. 3/10/1908, Grand Rapids, MI; d. 5/21/1979, Edgerton, MN) was a graduate of Hope College (Holland, MI), and the Protestant Reformed Theological Seminary (Grand Rapids, MI).  Ordained in 1932, he served Protestant Reformed Church congregations in South Holland, IL, 1932-1938; Holland, MI, 1938-1943; Redlands, CA, 1943-1948; Edgerton, MN, 1948-1960, and was part of that denomination which joined the Christian Reformed Church in 1960.  In the latter denomination he served congregations in Sioux Falls, SD, 1960-1970; Dorr, MI, 1970-1973, retiring in 1973. Although an active parish minister, De Boer authored a number of catechisms and Bible studies for various age groups.  He served as the editor of Concordia, 1948-1953.

A native of Grand Rapids, MI, De Boer married Gertrude Vermeer (1908-1983), also from Grand Rapids, in 1930.  They had seven children-Pierson, Elizabeth Ann (Fey, Vanden Berg), Henry, Joan (Pool), Melvin, Alyce (Ten Cate), and Gladys (Vander Pol).
