However, he transferred to Calvin College, graduating in 1927. He went on to Calvin Theological Seminary where he earned his Th.B. in 1930. At the 1930 Synod, the South American committee accepted Bruxvoort as their missionary. So, Bruxvoort and his new bride travelled to South America. He served as a missionary to the Dutch immigrants of Argentina and Brazil from 1930 to 1935.

In 1936 Bruxvoort took on neighborhood evangelism in areas of Michigan. He became a lay missionary in Denver, Colorado from 1943 until 1949. He then served the congregations of Sioux Falls, SD (1949-53) and Preakness, NJ (1953-59). In 1959 Bruxvoort returned to missionary work again, this time in in the towns of Cochrane and New Liskeard, Ontario. By 1966 Bruxvoort moved to Miami, Florida as a home missionary for the Spanish Mission. Bruxvoort retired in 1966.

During his retirement, he moved to back to Denver, Colorado where he continued his evangelism ministry. Toward the end, Bruxvoort suffered from Alzheimer's disease.
