Abstract
Professor of sociology at Calvin College and at Western Michigan University. The collection includes articles published in the Calvin Monograph Series in sociology, reports for the Grand Rapids City Planning Commission, five lectures presented as a community service, a housing proposal report published by the W. E. Upjohn Institute for Employment Research, and correspondence regarding racial prejudice in the National Union of Christian Schools publications. [See also the Campus Titles Database.]
Biographical Note
Donald H. Bouma was born in 1918 in Grand Rapids, Michigan, to Fred D. and Anna Breen Bouma. He was a graduate of Calvin College and received his BA in 1940, his MA from the University of Michigan, and his PhD in sociology and anthropology from Michigan State University. Donald served in the US Navy from 1944-1946. Donald worked as a sociology professor for both Calvin College (1946-1960) and Western Michigan University (1960-1984). He was also the chair of Calvin's sociology department. Donald also served twenty-five of those years as an adjunct professor of criminology to the University of Michigan and as a visiting professor at Michigan State University. He was also the author of Dynamics of School Integration, 1958, and Kids and Cops: A problem of Mutual Hostility, 1969, and several monographs and articles for professional journals.
From 1974 to 1984 Donald was the associate editor of the USA Today magazine. Donald spent most of his life in Western Michigan and retired to the Phoenix area in 1984. Donald died on 8 August 2006 in Sun City, Arizona.
