Historical Note: Peter (Pieter) De Klerk was born 15 April 1927, in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. In 1951 he joined the migration of Dutch to Canada, settling in Winnipeg.  He graduated from Calvin College (AB) in 1956 and attended Calvin Theological Seminary and Westminster Theological Seminary from which he earned an MDiv in 1963. In 1968 he obtained a MLS from Emory University and began his career as a librarian coming to Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan, in 1969 as the theological librarian. In 1971 he also became curator of the Calvinism Collection, and in 1983 curator of the H.H. Meeter Center. An accomplished bibliographer, De Klerk had a profound interest in Dutch immigration. De Klerk retired in 1989 to devote full-time attention to his research. He died 18 March 1997 in Grand Rapids. De Klerk never married and was survived by three sisters and a brother, all living in the Netherlands.
