Abstract

Professor at Calvin Theological Seminary and Princeton Theological Seminary. The collection includes: inaugural addresses of 1888 (and translation, 2005), and 1894, sermons, addresses, correspondence with Abraham Kuyper, plus bound manuscripts of mimeographed class notes on systematic theology, dogmatics, the teaching of the Epistle to the Hebrews, biblical theology of the Old and New Testament. In Dutch and English.

Biographical Note

Geerhardus Vos was born in Heerenveen, Friesland, the Netherlands on March 14, 1862. In 1881 Vos and his parents immigrated to the United States. Vos attended Calvin Theological Seminary, graduating in 1883. He also studied at Princeton Seminary for two years of graduate work. Vos continued his studies abroad, in Berlin, Germany for a year. In 1888 he received his Ph.D. from the University of Strassburg.

Vos returned to the United States and accepted a faculty position at Calvin Seminary. He served diligently as a professor at the Seminary until 1893. In 1893 he was appointed as the Professor of Biblical Theology at Princeton Seminary. He remained at the Seminary until his retirement in 1932.

Vos passed away on August 13, 1949. His wife, Catherine née Smith, preceded him in death.
