Biographical Note
Dorothy Lindemulder was born in Denver, Colorado, and grew up in Los Angeles, California. She attended Calvin College and was part of the 1950 graduating class. Dorothy married Dale Van Hamersveld on 18 July 1950. Together they had two children. Dorothy became a second grade teacher at North Christian School in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Dale owned Van's Furniture Company in Kalamazoo. The success of their business allowed them to travel. While traveling, they began to see the spiritual needs of girls and women around the world. This became the catalyst for providing financial stewardship for Christian education for girls and women. Dorothy and her husband became active in the Committee for Women in the Christian Reformed Church. Dorothy served as the committee's director of development for over thirty years. Dorothy furthered her own education by attending Calvin Theological Seminary and Western Seminary, earning her Master of Religious Education in 1986.
