William Peter Van Wyk was born on December 3, 1874 in Haarlemmermeer, Noord Holland, the Netherlands. Van Wyk immigrated to the United States in 1893. He made his confession of faith in Pella, Iowa to Rev. J. Manni.
Van Wyk desired to become a minister so he attended Calvin Theological Seminary, and earned his diploma in 1902. His first call to service came from New Holland, South Dakota. He worked with the New Holland congregation until 1904. Rev. Van Wyk other charges include Sioux Center, IA (1904-1911); Oakdale Park, Grand Rapids, MI (1911-1922); Second, Orange City, IA (1922-1925); and lastly Eastern Ave., Grand Rapids, MI (1925-1941). In 1941 Rev. Van Wyk was granted with emeritus status.
Rev. Van Wyk had published a book of sermons in 1913 as well as co-authored a Manual for the Study of the Compendium of the Christian Religion. He also served as president of the Synod. Due to a brief illness, Rev. William Van Wyk passed away on June 28, 1943. He was survived by his wife, Jennie Heeringa, three daughters, and a son.
