Steen, Peter Lambert (1902-1935) | Heritage Hall, Hekman Library
The Peter Lambert Steen collection includes one series of Heidelberg Catechism sermons preached in the only Christian Reformed Church served. Within three years of an active ministry, Peter was constrained by illness to seek emeritation. He served the Decatur Christian Reformed Church from 1928 to 1930. For five years he struggled to overcome the debilitating effects of a cephalic tumor. There were times he was able to preach or to attend meetings, however, towards the end of his life the damaged body fell into a semi-coma and he passed away February 19, 1935 at the age of 32.
Peter L. Steen was born on November 18, 1902. His education started in the North Fourth Street Christian School of Paterson, New Jersey. In time he attended Calvin College Preparatory, Calvin College, Calvin Theological Seminary and one year at the Princeton Theological Seminary where he received the Th.M. He married Cora Yonker in 1925.
During his brief active ministry, he proved to be a keen student in the Word, a faithful preacher of the Word, and a caring pastor of the Word.
