Brant Sevensma was born in the Netherlands on June 28, 1867. Sevensma and his family immigrated to the United States where his father, Rev. S. B. Sevensma, served the congregation of Christian Reformed Church on Eastern Ave. Sevensma initially worked at a local Christian School, but eventually went into the book selling business. Sevensma's bookstore was very successful because he sold books in the Dutch language to the people of the Holland, Michigan area. Years later he began work as a secretary treasurer of the Culterville Psychopathic hospital.
Sevensma was a member of the Eastern Ave. church and prominently served as an elder. He also served as the president of the Girls society and the Holland Men's society. For 26 years Sevensma served as the stated clerk of Classis Grand Rapids East. After being ill for several weeks, Brant Sevensma passed away on October 4, 1929.
