Abstract

Minister of the Christian Reformed Church. The collection includes selected Dutch and English sermons that were preached between 1933-1940 and repeated.

Biographical Note

John Byleveld was born in Groningen, the Netherlands on June 23, 1879. The Bylevelds moved to the United States when John was nine years old and they settled down in Grand Rapids, Michigan.  Byleveld attended Calvin College and Seminary, graduating in 1906. Byleveld accepted the call from Edgerton, Minnesota to begin his ministry. Byleveld also served the churches of Highland, Indiana, New Holland, South Dakota, Prairie City, Iowa, Rotterdam, Kansas and Oak Harbor, Washington completing a 35-year career in ministry. After retiring, Byleveld encountered health problems, so he and his wife, Gertrude Kuipers, moved to Christian Rest Home in Grand Rapids. Byleveld passed away on August 19, 1969 due to bronchial pneumonia.
