After only a year of teaching Post enter the army at the end of World War I. When he returned, he enrolled at Calvin College and later transferred to the University of Michigan. At the University of Michigan he received his BA and MA in economics.

Outside of the school, Post and his wife Catherine (Hennink) ran a summer youth camp called Camp Roger on Little Bostwick Lake. Once he retired, Post worked at Heritage Hall, Calvin College. He served as a field agent for the Christian Reformed Church, collecting material for the archives and microfilming them. Post also translated documents from Dutch to English for the archives.
