Son of Rev. John Post and Jessie Kuiper, Egbert R. Post was born in Almont, Michigan on August 28, 1896. Post began his teaching career in a one-room Christian School house in Baldwin, Wisconsin. After only a year of teaching Post enter the army at the end of World War I. When he returned, he enrolled at Calvin College and later transferred to the University of Michigan. At the University of Michigan he received his BA and MA in economics.
Post accepted a teaching position at Grand Rapids Christian High School. There he taught the subjects of social science, commercial law, and governments. In 1932 Post became principal of the Grand Rapids Christian High School and remained principal until his retirement in 1965. Post became affectionately known as "Erpie" because of the way he signed slips.
Outside of the school, Post and his wife Catherine (Hennink) ran a summer youth camp called Camp Roger on Little Bostwick Lake. Once he retired, Post worked at Heritage Hall, Calvin College. He served as a field agent for the Christian Reformed Church, collecting material for the archives and microfilming them. Post also translated documents from Dutch to English for the archives.
On June 11, 1993 Egbert R. Post died from congestive heart failure. His wife preceded him in death in 1982. He is survived by his son, Jay Post and daughter, Eunice Hope.
