Abstract

Minister of the Reformed Church in America, missionary to Japan, and professor of religion at Western Theological Seminary in Holland, Michigan. The collection includes a digest of the minutes of the consistory of the First Reformed Church of Holland, Michigan, November 5, 1850, to March 16, 1855; a lecture, 1938, entitled "A Candid Examination of the Scofield Bible"; two addresses concerning the secession of 1857 (Christian Reformed Church) and the secession of the Pillar Church of Holland, Michigan, in 1882; and a manuscript, entitled "Notes on Old Testament History."

Biographical Note

Albertus Pieters was born in Alto, Wisconsin on February 5, 1869. Pieters attended Hope College where he earned his A.B. degree in 1887and his A.M. degree in 1890. In 1891 Pieters graduated with a D.D. degree from Western Theological Seminary in Holland, Michigan. Also in 1891 Pieters got married to Emma Kollen and went off to serve as missionaries in Japan. While stationed in Oita, Japan, Pieters started the program Newspaper Evangelism. They served in Japan until 1923. Once back in the United States, Pieters taught in the Bible Department of his alma mater, Hope College. In 1926 Pieters became faculty at Western Theological Seminary and remained there until 1939. On December 24, 1955 the minister and professor, Albertus Pieters, passed away in Holland, Michigan.
