Name: Haan, Gijsbert (1801-1874)
Historical Note: Gijsbert Haan was born in the town of Hilversum, the Netherlands on January 3, 1801. When he grew up he made a living by becoming his hometown's weaver. He was one of the initial leaders of the Secession, and attended one the early Synods of the Christian Reformed Church. He immigrated with his wife, Marretje Pos, to the United States. They settled in Grand Rapids, Michigan where they attend First Church. Haan was very involved member of the church and served as an elder of the Frist Church for several years. He passed away on July 27, 1874.
