The collection includes a diary entitled First Book of Chronicles, 1879-1913, detailing Avink's experiences as a farmer at Blendon, Michigan, and Modesto, California; a diary entitled Second Book of Chronicles, 1913-1915, detailing his experiences at Butte City, California, and the organization of the Afton Christian Reformed Church at Afton, California; a diary, 1915-1943, detailing brief daily community and church events at the First Christian Reformed Church, Ripon, California; and information regarding early ministers in California, i.e., J. A. Vissia, F. W. Stuart, P. J. Hoekenga, J. De Jong, and N. De Vries.
Biographical Note
Henry E. Avink lived in Afton and Ripon, California, and in Blendon, Michigan. He came from the Netherlands with his parents Engbert Avink (aka Egbert Avinka) and Lamberdina Wassink Avink. He was a member of the Christian Reformed Church in Afton. A farmer, he married Gerdiena Vruggink and died in Ripon, California, on 4 March 1943.
