Abstract

Correspondence between relatives and friends in the USA and in the Netherlands, and the Dirk and Hattie (Boeve) Bratt family of Holland and Ellsworth, Michigan. Letters comment on daily routine and events in the community, church life, and farming; genealogical materials; business correspondence regarding land deals, crop development and sales; various legal documents, account books, log books, almanacs, journals, notes, essays, poems, newspaper clippings and pamphlets. A speech entitled "The History of the Christian Reformed Church in South Olive, Michigan," given at its twenty-fifth anniversary in 1910. There are also the minutes of the Men’s Society of the Atwood CRC, Atwood, Michigan, 1918, of which D. Bratt was the secretary.

Biographical Note

Son of Hero and Albertha (Gortworst) Bratt, Dirk H. Bratt was born 5 January 1877. Dirk married Egbertje (Hattie) Boeve. Together they had 12 children– Janna, Hendrick, Cornelia, Steven, William Stephen, Hero D., Egbert, Albertha D., Aaltje, Boy Dickson, Dorothy Ann, and [unknown] Bratt. They lived in Holland and Ellsworth, Michigan. Dirk passed away on 22 February 1932.
