Abstract John Vander Vate worked for the United States Department of Public Health in Washington, DC. During the early years of World War II, prior to United States entry, he served as a mail intermediary between residents of occupied Netherlands and family not living in neutral nations. Nurse. The diaries in this collection were selected from diaries of Margaret W. Vander Poorte.  They are representative copies in which Margaret described her ordinary daily activities.  The Sundays give brief accounts of church activities.  Her physical condition is referred to repeatedly.  This collection was donated by John G. Vander Poorte, Margaret's widower.
