The Tunis VandenBerg Collection houses the personal papers of Tunis VandenBerg (1921 – 1999). This collection, which dates from 1942 – 2004, consists of military records, photos, mission logs, and other memorabilia from the World War II era. This collection features materials from many points in VandenBerg’s career including health and personal affairs forms filled out when he entered the army as well as discharge forms. These military documents may be of interest to those looking to learn more about how soldiers entered and left the service. The collection contains accounts and photos of a B-24 Bomber crash in Italy in 1942. The memorabilia in this collection includes many medals of note such as a Distinguished Flying Cross, a Purple Heart, and an Air Medal.

Biographical or Historical Information

Tunis VandenBerg was a Calvin grad who went onto study at Wayne State Medical School. Before attending college, he served as a navigator on a B-24 Bomber during World War II.
