Administrative/Biographical History
In order to regulate the business and limit the competition of scavengers of the Chicago area, the Dutch scavengers formed an association. By the 1930s grew to 60 members, in which more than 90 percent were Dutch. They evolved into the Chicago Cinder and Scavenger Truck Owners Association in 1933 and later in 1941 became the Chicago and West Suburban Ash and Scavenger Association. Once again, their name change into the Chicago and Suburban Refuse Disposal Association in 1959.
